Over 50 years ago, the recipe made famous by University of Rochester professor Jack Prip has been reengineered by Bench Basics. The formula, known as "Prips Flux," has been manufactured using modern methods to ensure consistent, firecoat protection. This flux can be used when soldering gold, silver, and all non-ferrous metals, including nickle silver.
For optimal results, ensure that the workpiece is clean from debris. Bench Basics' Smart Flux provides excellent firecoat and firescale protection. To apply, briefly heat the metal with a torch and then apply the flux until a fine layer is achieved. It is necessary to coat the entire workpiece, as no bare metal should be visible.
Heat the metal until the flux dries evenly, being careful not to overheat it (the flux will turn gold or brown). If the metal is under-heated, the flux will remain liquid in certain spots. The perfect application will result in an even white coating on the entire workpiece.
After soldering, use Bench Basics' Smart Pickle to remove the Smart Flux from the workpiece.
The process is as follows: 1. Gently brush the metal with a flame. 2. Apply the flux evenly to the metal. 3. Coat the entire piece until a thin white layer appears when water is dissolved. 4. Do not overheat the metal.
